He started rolling over belly to back a little bit ago but I finally just got it on video. Oh and don't turn your volume up.... my voice is really loud and super annoying on this video.

Carter & Santa
Carter met Santa for the first time this afternoon. He wasn't scared of him and really wanted to get a handful of his beard! He wasn't interested in smiling for the camera though, but regardless we got his first Christmas and first santa meeting documented. I think this one is pretty cute

randomness
Some random stuff
swimming: Carter started swim lessons. The first time he wasn't sure of the huge bath tub and clung to me like crazy. Carter is by no means a clinger so it was kinda cute to actually have him cling to me for once. It didn't last long though. He LOVES swim lessons. He splashes like crazy and his entire face will be wet from all the splashing. He also loves to lean forward and put his mouth in the water. Not sure if he is trying to drink it or look at it or what, but he does it over and over again.
He also doesn't have the close your mouth and eyes reaction that most babies have when someone blows in their face. The teacher says pretend you are taking a big breath and then blow in his face and dunk him. Well when I blow in Carter's face he opens his eyes and mouth really wide and thinks it is a game. Not very conducive for dunking him! He did go under super quickly and liked it the first couple times but then got sick of it. We haven't done it much since he keeps his mouth and eyes wide open the entire time!
Carter totally thinks the swim instructor is a cool dude. The guy is a college kid with shaggy hair and a laid back attitude and Carter thinks he is super cool. He will lean around me and smile at him. Carter is also the only kid in class that doesn't freak out when the instructor holds him and floats him around the pool. Way to go kid!
milestones: Carter is pulling up on stuff and trying to get on his hands and knees. He is also moving around the floor a bit. Today, while at swim lessons, he learned that if he is sitting up and puts his hands in front of him he can scootch his feet and move backwards. All of a sudden he was moving backwards and totally loving it!
I think I'm in trouble when he becomes mobile. He always wants to be checking stuff out and doesn't really like to be held anymore. He is always flinging himself towards things to reach for, touch, chew, etc while I am holding him. Even at target he sits in the cart and is constantly reaching for things off the shelves.
other kids: Carter loves to hang out with other kids! We joined a stroller strides class a couple weeks ago and at the end of every class the kids get out and play on the floor. Carter loves to watch the big girls (they are 3) run around the room and he sits and smiles at them the whole time they are running!
There is a 15 month old that comes over to Carter and they play together and touch each others faces and stuff. Carter loves it. He is always reaching for the other kids. Today, before swim lessons, another mom and I had Carter and Julia sitting in the super shallow end/zero entry part of the pool and Carter was desperately trying to get closer to Julia. It was so cute. He loves other kids! He was splashing and trying to reach her and she was laughing at him. Pretty funny!
eating: his current favorites are bananas, graham crackers, and blueberries. He isn't crazy about meat yet and usually spits it out. Since we've started finger foods he doesn't like to be spoon fed anymore. Now we load up the spoon and give it to him.... which means that 75% of what is on the spoon ends up on his face, shirt, floor, etc.
sleeping: we are back to sleeping through the night! yeayyyyyyyyy! He had totally gotten into a habit of waking up at specific times and we could almost predict exactly when he'd get up. He's been sleeping through the night for a few weeks now and now that he has learned to roll each direction he is all over his crib! Sometimes I'll go say good night to him and cover him up and he'll be sleeping across his crib the short way with his face all pressed up against the bumper or he'll be completely turned around facing the opposite direction. Crazy kid.
favorites: There are a few certain things that Carter lights up when he sees them. My cell phone. I can't make a call if Carter can see me because he does everything he can to get the cell phone away from me and into his own hands. The REAL remote control. We found an old one and made it his remote control but he doesn't really care about that one, he only likes the real one. My wallet. If we're out shopping I have to get my wallet out of Carter's reach while I get a credit card out or else he swipes it right out of my hands. Other shoppers seem to think it is pretty funny how badly he wants to hold my wallet. Funny dude. Sophie the giraffe is STILL a hit. He loves Sophie!
Some new favorites are his work bench, keys, roll around balls and the toy basket.
random: Some people like to have their backs rubbed. Not Carter. He likes to have the inside of his hands rubbed and bonus points if you rub the inside of his wrists too. He will hold his hand open and up for me to rub them. Pretty cute.
He has also started doing things then looking back to see if I'm watching him. Like hey mom did you see what I just did?!

feeding Tucker
Today Carter figured out that if he holds a cracker over the side of his high chair that Tucker will come and eat it out of his hand. Tucker loves that Carter figured this out and Carter thinks it is beyond funny when Tucker eats from his hand.
Also, Carter is for sure giving kisses. He gave me three yesterday and even Joe was there to witness it. And when I asked him to give his bear kisses he brought the bear to his mouth and kissed it. I need to get that on video!

happy thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving! We have so much to be thankful for, but I have to admit that one certain thing/person is sticking out in my mind today. I got Carter up this morning and told him "Happy first Thanksgiving! Mama is seriously thankful for you!" It's true, I am beyond thankful for my very happy, healthy, and loving little man! He seemed to reciprocate the feeling and gave me a happy giggle/squeak and smile. If I'd only known how smitten I'd be with this little dude.... kid melts my heart and makes me beam with happiness and love laugh loud enough for everyone to hear.
This Thanksgiving has me doing some reflecting on this past year. Things have been rough for Joe and I this past year but as I sit here today and think of all the things I have to be thankful for I know that our rough year is only making us stronger and it could be a hell of a lot worse. It makes me want to pull myself up by my boot straps, slap on a happy smile and remember, each and every single day, all the good things in my life. Our circumstances may be less than ideal, but they are just that; circumstances. You can change circumstances. And, hell, the circumstances are what brought us to where/what we are today; married and a new little family and I wouldn't change any of that for the world.
Thank you, Thanksgiving for finally giving me the perspective I needed to grab those damn boot straps.

We made the usual - turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, crescent rolls and creamed corn. The creamed corn was a last minute decision since we didn't have what we needed to make green bean casserole. Carter got to try everything. He realllly enjoyed the mashed potatoes. So squishy in the hands and fun to smear around on everything. And I mean everything. He was sneezing out mashed potatoes :) He wasn't a fan of the turkey - which was his first time having any meat. He liked the crescent rolls and creamed corn though. Joe and I both find it crazy that he can tell foods apart. Once he tried the turkey a couple times he never went for it again - even though it was all mixed up, he knew he didn't want it.
Our dinner was great - although messy! - and we each said what we were thankful for. Funny thing was that Carter topped both by my and Joe's list :)
In other news I have a ton of pictures that have been neglected lately.

Above is Carter's holiday picture sweater and one of his new favorite things to do - empty his toys from the bin then check to be sure he got them all out :)
Speaking of clothes, Joe put this outfit on Carter the other day and wanted to give a shout out to Carter's personal shopper. Joe has decided that part of the reason that Carter is so stinking cute is because he has "little man" clothes and not "baby" clothes.

Also just in, Carter can FINALLY roll belly to back! He did it for the first time on his 8 month birthday, then didn't do it for a few days, but today he was doing it like crazy. I was watching Cartey TV (the video monitor in case you forgot we call it that) and he was rolling around his crib like a mad man. When I got him up from his nap his hair was all over the place from all the crib acrobatics.
I finally was able to get a picture of him rolling today. I was testing out some blankets for his holiday pictures - hence the almost naked baby on the fuzzy blanket - and he kept rolling around, trying to get up on all fours, and scooting all over. Apparently he does things in threes. Roll belly to back, try to get on all fours, and scoot around the blanket. I have a feeling we're going to be in for it once he learns to crawl . Oh and he loves to stand too! I hold his hands and have him walk around and he loves it - especially if we're walking towards Tucker or Kody.

whoohoo check it out!

He was really liking the fuzzy blankets!

getting a little sleepy

but he always has a smile and giggle for Tucker. Bug loves his dogs.

Bath time has gotten a lot more interesting in the past month. Carter no longer takes his baths laying down. Now it is all about sitting up and splashing and playing with toys. I was a serious nervous nelly the first few times he was sitting up in the bath. His balance was off sitting in the water and he would plunge forward at a moments notice. I had taken to calling bath time Mama high blood pressure time. But he has figured out balancing in the water and is much better now - thank god!

I see you have my orange crab...

while taking this picture his left hand was going crazy opening and closing trying to reach the crab

got it!

Last but not least, Carter weighs in at a whopping 22lbs! We still need to measure to see how tall his is... but seriously 22lbs! He is bigger than the 15 months olds in our stroller strides class and blows the 9 and 10 month olds out of the water! Even so, he is still my mini munchkin and is the perfect size in my opinion.
Oh and how could I forget! Carter has started giving hugs! Talk about melt your heart. He will look over and grab your arm, leg, whatever is close to him, and lean in and give a hug. So insanely adorable. Just the other night Carter was sitting next to me and all of a sudden he was hugging my arm and Joe goes "Oh I wish you could have seen that, he looked at you then leaned in for a hug" Such a little lover!
