Bug Baby

Carter is all about copying these days. It is pretty dang cute. His newest thing is scrunching his nose up and breathing in and out really loudly. I have to guess that he got this from me being sick? Sniffy and blowing my nose? Who knows. But he started doing it tonight and he is so animated about it. I didn't get the full effect on video but you can get the general idea.

The funny thing about being sick is that you get a lot of alone time. Basically from Thursday afternoon on I had alone time. aka sick in bed and sleeping. However any alone time is alone time these days. But the funny thing about alone time is the second you think you want it and you get it you want to go right back to together time. Last week I was practically begging for some Tara time. Not wife or mama time, just Tara time. I got it. Being sick in bed and alone made me crave my together time with my Bug and my little family. So while I am almost always in together time I much prefer it that way.

Last week I was afraid I'd lost who I was outside of being a wife and a mama. While this cold may have made me hazy and uncomfortable it did bring me some clarity as well. These days I may be more defined as a mama and a wife than as Tara but to hell with caring about what defines me. I define what it means to be a wife and a mama every day because it was who I was before being a wife and a mama that made me the kind wife/mama I am today. And they say colds only bring misery.

Anyway, I feel I need to give some updates! Lately it has been pictures and videos. And while those are priceless there are somethings pics/videos cannot show.

Carter. 11 months old and blowing us away each and every day. He is a super star snuggler and a huge lover. It isn't uncommon for him to be playing and look over at me, smile, and super crawl (crawl really fast) towards me to bury his head in my shoulder to give me a hug or to plant a nice big wet baby kiss on my lips. Kid carries his heart melting blow torch daily. Just the other day, before nap time, we were reading some books and he flipped over in my lap so he was facing me, smiled at me, then buried his head under my chin and into my chest and snuggled me. He just laid there and I sat there completely motionless as to not disturb that most perfect moment. A minute later he looked up at me, smiled again, turned his head to the other side and snuggled back in. Bliss. Pure bliss.

Carter LOVES to read books! Mr On-the-go will happily sit in my lap and read books.... sometimes for 15 minutes +. He loves to turn the pages. He has gotten so good at turning the pages that he'll even crawl over to a book and turn the pages himself. I swear with some of the books we read more often he knows when I'm done reading and to turn the page. It is crazy!

Teething sucks. Carter has 3 top teeth about to poke through. They are taking their sweet time though and driving the kid crazy. Hopefully they will make their appearance soon. I remember thinking how bizarre it was when he first got teeth. I wasn't ready for his gummy baby smile to have teeth. But I've gotten used to the two bottom teeth but I'm not sure I'm ready for 4 top teeth and 2 bottom teeth! He is growing up right before our eyes!

We got another one of Carter's first birthday presents. He loves loves loves to climb on things so we thought a kid size beanbag chair would be awesome for him. Turns out it isn't only great for climbing but fun for playing on/around too. Joe or I will hide behind it and Carter will climb up it and you'll see this little blonde head and blue eyes peeking over the top to try and see you. Pretty darn cute. In the video he is wearing his new jersey like t shirt. Which is why I call him my little football player.

We are literally counting down the months until we can move back to Gilbert. I cannot even begin to express my excitement! We will have choices of what we want to do each and every day! If we get bored at home we can go to the aquarium or the zoo. We can go swimming in the pool anytime we want. Or walk to the park to play. Carter and I are going to sign up for mommy and baby classes at the Little Gym. It is kinda like gymnastics and music classes combined. With lots of fun, soft stuff to crawl and climb on or play with. Super fun! Carter and I went to open gym at the gymnastics place in Flagstaff the other day. He loves all the stuff to crawl on and he especially loves crawling in between tight spaces! I totally need to build him a huge fort some day soon.

What's left of my cold is settling back in and begging me to climb back into bed.

Yellow Submarine Tour - Cabo, Mexico

Carter's first ice cream cone - strawberry cheesecake flavor. Sticky fingers must have touched the camera and gave it the nice hazy feel. Taken on our villa's ocean front patio. You can hear the waves in the background :)

11 months

Early this morning my little baby bug woke up in serious teething pain. As I cradled him in my arms and rocked him I glanced at the clock. 3:34am. 2/22. Then it hit me. 11 months ago my alarm was going off and I was about to get ready to shower, finish packing my bags, kiss my dogs goodbye, and head to the hospital for my 5am induction.

My sad teething bug was passed out in my arms but I couldn't find it in me to put him back in his crib. I looked at his tiny, peaceful, sleeping face washed in the soft glow of his nightlight and remembered all the anticipation I was feeling at that exact moment 11 months ago. Full of conflicting emotions. I sat and rocked him for a while and replayed that morning 11 months ago. There was a weird sense of calm that morning. Although, just under the calm surface, was a jumbled pot of anxious, nervous, and excitement all stewing together.

Just as I was remembering all those feelings Carter shifted in my arms and I was jolted back to the present and realized that all of those emotions are still here today, in some form or another. But now all of those emotions are mixed with the most insane and intense love.

11 short months ago, at this time (830ish), I was as big as a whale, dressed in a super fancy hospital gown, laying in a labor and delivery room, chatting with Joe about who knows what, completely unaware that my entire world was about to be rocked to its core.

Videos!

The flip was totally full an in desperate need of attention! Video over load!

Rocking with his new dino from Nana & Papa - that has since been put away for his birthday.

Chatting, snuggling, hugging and kissing, with his newest favorite bear - Gus - from his Great Grandma. Carter ADORES this bear. Almost every morning and every nap he talks to Gus and snuggles him before falling asleep. And he always has Gus in his hands when I come in and get him in the am and from naps. Gus is a hit!

Carter's newest game - the head shake game. We came about this totally on accident. He was snuggling in my arms trying to get comfy and shook his head a bit, I shook my head back and he thought it was so funny. Back and forth we went and now it is a game we play and he often initiates.

Here's Carter doing one of his favorite things.... throwing his books off his shelf and/or throwing toys out of the baskets. Basically he likes to empty things/throw things :)

More videos coming tomorrow!

My Baby Love

Carter got an early birthday card in the mail the other day. The card sings "My Baby Love" and Carter adores it. He smiles every time it starts to play and even does some dance moves. We got his butt dance moves on video. He did his very first standing dance moves today while his card was playing! Joe and I both saw his little butt bopping up and down and were like OMG-did-you-see-that?!

Disregard the totally mismatched clothes... Carter just grew out of a ton of his pants and it was laundry day.

holy hell

I made Carter's one year well baby check up appointment today. Hu? One year well baby check up? I cannot wrap my head around this AT ALL.

Cartboo is FINALLY better! Talk about the never ending cold. 2+ weeks. Poor dude. We have gotten into a nasty little habit.... bottle before naps. I think at this point is is going to be harder for me to kick this habit than it will be for Carter. Now that he is go go go I don't get as much snuggle time. And snuggling before naps is some of the best snuggles ever. Just today he looked at me and shook his head. So I shook my head. He smiled, then shook his and had an apprehensive smile waiting for me to shake mine. Back and forth we went and I had a tear rolling down my cheek it was so stinking cute and funny. I could not stop laughing. So much for settling down before his nap. Ehh, who cares?! I cannot. stop. thinking. that in a few short months he won't be drinking bottles anymore and we won't have that excuse to snuggle in the rocking chair. He is growing up entirely too fast. This fast growing up is leading to some "bad" habits. But seriously, I have to cherish each and every single moment like this because before long I won't be able to get him to sit still at all. Ey, ey, ey.

Last night he cried a bit at 2am and normally we'd let him put himself back to sleep (which he does very well) but before I knew it I was half asleep and on my way to his room. My subconscious must be on the same page. The page reads like this "Must. Enjoy. Serious. Baby. Snuggles. As. Much. As. Possible."

I'm just slightly torn up that my tiny little newborn baby is about to turn one next month. When we're at Target and a little kid says "look at the baby!" I smile. He is a baby and I love that all kids point out babies. It is cute and funny and always makes me smile. But after he turns one he'll be a toddler. And I don't think little kids go "hey look at the toddler" Arg. I know one is only a number but my god where did the time go?

Arg, I suppose I have to let him grow up, hu? However, my dude is a lover. He snuggles his bears and blankets and loves to give the best open mouth sloppy baby kisses ever. Sometimes he'll be exploring and look over and see me watching him and he'll smile and crawl over to me and snuggle me or give me a kiss. For real, talk about melt your heart with a blow torch good.

video

Remember when I told you that if Carter hears the dogs barking he goes to the gate and looks down? I got it on video. And remember how I said he puts his mouth towards the gate so he can give/get a kiss? Yep he did that at the very end. Oh and he's starting to cruise. You can see that too. Warning, you might get a little motion sick with this shaky video!

brrrrr baby it's cold outside!

Brrrrrr! Chilly! I needed a little visual warming up so here is the view from our villa in Cabo. I'm there in my mind right now warming up! (I promise all of our vacation pictures won't come one by one... I'm working on it)

734v2

A cute new thing in Carter's word...If he is playing in his room and hears the dogs barking he crawls to the top of the stairs and kneels up to the gate and looks down to see if he can see them. Usually Kody will run up the stairs and kiss his hands (that are holding on to the gate) then Carter will move his mouth towards one of the openings in the gate so that Kody can kiss him. Then he giggles and pulls back and looks at her, then moves forwards so she can give him more kisses. Super cute!
