if you want my baby.....

We sing this goofy little song to Carter that goes like this: If you want my baby you cannot have him. Oh no! You can't have him! We shake our heads during the "oh no!" part and Carter has started to also. So funny!

old pics

Well not really old. I found them in Carter's 11 month folder. Apparently I totally forgot about these! I was going to post zoo pics but figured I'd do this first.

This is Carter's amber teething necklace. I was so skeptical but now I totally swear by it. It not only helps with teething pain but the drool as well. Plus I think it looks pretty cute.

Carter wasn't so sure about this rips in his jeans!

it's official!

Carter is walking! He was previously taking a step or two to get to something then falling into it. But now he's taking a few steps here and there and staying standing! Crazy! So far his highest step count is 3 steps.

couple pics from Carter's bday weekend

Couldn't resist posting these now. Loving this picture of Joe and Cartboo.

We had so much fun! I can't wait to go through the rest of the pictures.

ONE

Carterboo is one. Crazy, right?

Some facts about my one year old:
24lbs (70%), 32 inches (92%) with stormy blue eyes & blonde hair

6 teeth - 2 bottom and 4 top

starting to take tentative first steps

drinks whole milk from a sippy and only drinks a bottle before bed (our night routine is so great that we're procrastinating getting rid of the night bottle)

sleeps through the night - and has been for quite a while now. He's a good sleeper!

loves his blankie - the blue knit blankie he's had since he was a couple months old is still his favorite. It is definitely his security blanket and he won't go to sleep without it.

loves to love - Carter loves love. He hugs his animals multiple times a day. And when we play on the floor he'll come up to me and hug me or lay in my lap for a minute or two. Just like he is loving on this pillow.

loves to share his goodness - ie he loves to share his toys, snacks, animals, etc with us. If he loves something he wants us to try it and love it too. This has to be one of my most favorite things about him! He also really wants to share with the dogs but they're not too sure about this yet.

snuggler - our night routine is ah.maaazzz.ing. We give him a small bottle, then we read some books. After we're done reading books I (or Joe) pick Carter up, put his blankie on my shoulder and hold him up high with his knees into my stomach and his butt out. Then he snuggles his head onto my left shoulder and his blankie, put his right hand up holding his blanket by his face, and puts his left arm straight down, under my arm that is rubbing his back. Then we sway back and forth a bit and I (or Joe) tell him how much I love him, talk about our day or our next plans, etc. Then we lay him down, turn on Charlie (the seahorse that plays music and has a belly the lights up) and tell him goodnight. I love this routine. I love love love the way he snuggles in a rests his head on my shoulder. Joe and I both love this new routine.

birds & outside - Carter loves to be outside and if he hears a bird he looks around to find it. Reminds me of my bro Jason and how he really liked "birdies" when he was little.

picker upper - Carter has started to put things away! yeay! He may look like his dad but he's not taking after him in all aspects :) For example, today he took his tooth brush and elephant night light off the little table we have by his chair. Then he grabbed them one by one and put them back up where they came from. He also took all the pot covers out of the drawer today and then started to put them away. So cute to watch! And I love that he is picking up. One less thing for me to pick up!

nicknames - Cartbo, Carterboo, Bug, and Buggy are used most frequently.

talking - a little while back Carter was saying "hi baaee" (hi babe) but he's stopped doing this. He says Dada and Nana all the time. Not many Mama's. If he's saying anything else I haven't figured it out yet.

waving - Carter waves now and when he's done waving he sticks his arm straight out so that I can chomp his hand with my hand. That seems to be his favorite part of waving.

food - Carter's current favorites: yogurt melts, string cheese, been & cheese quesadilla, spaghetti, turkey manicotti, stringy beef, sweet potato fries, ranch burgers, fruit/veggie smoothie pouches, waffles, crackers, pears, peaches, peas, green beans, carrots, corn, squash, bananas, strawberries. Carter is also learning to eat with a fork. I load it and he feeds it to himself.

strangers - he doesn't have much stranger anxiety but he definitely knows who he likes and who he doesn't. He doesn't give out smiles freely like he used to. Now only certain people (strangers) can get a smile out of him. I'm definitely not pushing him to smile, wave, say hi to strangers. If he doesn't want to smile at them that's his choice. One person he still really likes is Dr McGarey. He crawls over to her, pulls up on her legs, and wants her to hold him. He doesn't do this with anyone else. In fact we saw a different doctor the other day (Dr McGarey wasn't in) and Carter wasn't at all impressed with the new doctor. He was a younger guy and he was friendly but Carter wasn't sure about him at all! He had the pout/I'm not sure if I'm going to cry face on the whole time. But then on the way out of the dr office, in the elevator, was an older man who simply smiled at Carter and Carter smiled back. It's definitely interesting to see how he reacts to people.

We had to wait a while for our dr appointment..... Carter loves to push around the dr stool.

breaking news!!

Carter took his first step! He was playing in our hotel room on Saturday afternoon and was looking out the patio door. He turned around and saw the chair a couple feet away and went for it! Poor Joe was in the bathroom for 2 seconds and missed it.

Lots of pics and info about Carter's birthday weekend to come very soon! We had a GREAT time and really soaked up the mini family vacation that we all desperately needed.
