On our first Mother's Day I couldn't stop thinking about how much I love him and how much happiness he has brought to both myself and Joe. (and Tucker and Koder too I'm sure) It also made me think of when my parents were in my shoes, and when they brought home me from the hospital and then a few years later Jason. In a way having Carter has given me a greater understanding of a parent/child relationship. I have always known my parents loved me (from the pipes to the clouds) but now I think I have a greater appreciation for the parent perspective of the relationship. To my mom and dad, or now Nana and Papa, I love you, I know I put you through some rough times (and I'm sure Jason has too) but I look at the relationship that we have today, and the relationship our family has, and know that every trial and tribulation was worth it. You were my parents when I needed parents and my friends when I needed friends. I feel very fortunate that I can say that my parents are two of my best friends. I hope I can learn from your examples and create that kind of relationship with Carter.
And to think I didn't really know what I was going to write about for this blog post!
Ok, now a little about my boo. He is wonderful and is back to his happy baby self! We have learned that missing naps is a no go for this little guy and that the first AM naps seems to be the most crucial and sets the tone for the rest of the day. He is smiling more and more. Just today Joe was changing his diaper singing the "Carter's got something brewing in his underwears" song and Carter was showing his appreciation for Joe's singing in huge gummy baby smiles. The other day he woke up from a nap and when I walked in to get him and said "Hey bug, how was your nap?" he greeted me with a big baby smile. Enough to remelt my heart in a second!
He is also doing great with holding his big head up! We do lots of "tummy time" with him on my chest and we play on the baby play mat once a day as well. (Although he's not as big of a fan of tummy time on the baby play mat.) He continues to love looking at bright things or things with lights. I found this light up glow worm that seems like it would be right up his alley. He's probably too little for it now, but soon I'm sure it will be on my doorstep :) Shh don't tell Joe.

He got two new lovie bears this weekend. They are a bear with a blanket body. Blankets are one of the few things he will grasp on to so these lovie bears are perfect for his little baby hands.

For Mother's Day Carter and the dogs did a great job! The dogs got me beautiful flowers - they are SOOO bright I love them. And Carter got me a gift to repay me for all those sleepless uncomfortable nights before he was born - a massage! I cannot wait to use it. I also got this necklace I've been eying - but it is still in route to our house. I'll post pics once it's here.
The weekend was spent out hiking at Shultz Creek Trail, Joe made a great breakfast (which he does most weekends and I probably don't say thank you for enough), we had fires both nights, had a nice lunch at Paradise Bakery and did some shopping in Phoenix. And of course we snuggled a baby!

Out hiking at Shultz Creek Trail

me "So is this the creek?" Joe "I guess so"
